Furniture Stands Alone in Year-over-Year Decline as U.S. Retail Sales Shift Away From Big-Ticket Home Purchases
Furniture was reportedly the only major U.S. retail category to post a year-over-year decline in July 2026. Although store sales increased 0.3% from June, they remained approximately 2.7% below last year, highlighting continuing pressure from cautious consumers, weak housing-related demand and changing retail channels.
