MIFF 2026: Where Creativity Meets Craft — Celebrating the Human Side of Furniture Design
In the bustling halls of Kuala Lumpur’s Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), creativity, craftsmanship, and passion came together as the Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) 2026 Awards honoured designers and manufacturers who are shaping the future of furniture.
For many attendees, the awards were more than just trophies and recognition—they were a celebration of imagination, innovation, and the people behind the designs that make everyday living more comfortable and inspiring.
A Stage for Talent and Ideas
The MIFF Awards have become one of the most anticipated highlights of the annual furniture fair. This year’s ceremony gathered designers, manufacturers, retailers, and international buyers, all eager to witness the industry’s rising stars and groundbreaking ideas.
The awards showcased three major categories:
- Furniture Design Competition (FDC)
- Furniture Excellence Award (FEA)
- Best Presentation Award (BPA)
Together, they celebrate both the creative minds behind innovative designs and the companies pushing boundaries in furniture manufacturing and presentation.
Young Designers Steal the Spotlight
At the heart of the evening was the Furniture Design Competition, a platform that has nurtured emerging talent since its launch in 2010.
This year’s top prize went to Jessica Antonius from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) for her design “ROEL,” which impressed judges with its creativity and practicality. She received RM5,000 for the winning concept.
Second place went to Doo Jade Qi of the Malaysian Institute of Art for the design “GLORB,” while Teh Jian Yin from The One Academy Penang secured third place with “REKA REKA SERIES.” A special mention was also awarded to Prathiin Saravanamuthu of Universiti Sains Malaysia for “STACKABLOCK.”
The competition challenged designers under 40 to create bedroom furniture for children aged five to nine, under the theme:
“Playful. Practical. Purposeful: Furniture for Generation Alpha.”
Participants were asked to balance imagination with practicality—creating designs that appeal to both children and their modern, design-conscious parents.
Recognising Industry Excellence
Beyond emerging designers, MIFF also celebrated manufacturers who have set new standards in quality and design.
Among the winners of the Furniture Excellence Awards were:
- Eastern Decorator Sdn Bhd – Platinum Award
- Luxury Sleep Products Sdn Bhd – Gold Award
- Instyle Sofa Sdn Bhd – Silver Award
These companies were recognised for delivering products that combine aesthetics, functionality, and innovation—qualities that continue to strengthen Malaysia’s reputation in the global furniture industry.
Presentation That Tells a Story
The exhibition floor itself also became a canvas for creativity.
The Best Presentation Award recognised exhibitors who transformed their booths into immersive experiences for visitors:
- Chuanheng Furniture Products Sdn Bhd – First Place
- Foshan Linsy Home Co., Ltd. – Second Place
- Zhin Sheng Furniture Sdn Bhd – Third Place
Meanwhile, ELK-Desa Furniture Products Sdn Bhd received the Informa Better Stands Award, reflecting the industry’s growing focus on sustainability and responsible exhibition practices.
A Global Platform for the Furniture Industry
MIFF has grown into Southeast Asia’s largest furniture trade exhibition, bringing together nearly 700 exhibitors and around 20,000 buyers from 140 countries. The event spans 100,000 square metres across multiple halls, making it one of the most important meeting points for global furniture trade and design innovation.
Industry leaders say the fair is not just about business—it is about shaping the future of how people live, work, and interact with their spaces.
More Than Furniture — A Celebration of Creativity
As the MIFF 2026 Awards concluded, the message was clear: furniture is no longer just functional. It tells stories, reflects lifestyles, and brings together art, engineering, and human creativity.
For young designers and established manufacturers alike, the event reaffirmed one powerful truth—great design begins with people who dare to imagine something better.
