Unlicensed Furniture Factory in Kuala Kangsar Raided, Seizures Exceed RM700,000

By The Furniture Times – Industry Enforcement & Compliance Desk

IPOH, Malaysia — Authorities conducted a major raid on a furniture processing and manufacturing factory in Kuala Kangsar after discovering it had been operating without a valid licence for more than a year. The integrated operation — led by the General Operations Force (Northern Brigade) together with the Royal Malaysia Police, the Kuala Kangsar District Forestry Office, the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council and the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) — resulted in the seizure of machinery, raw materials and semi-finished products valued at over RM734,990.

 Illegal Operations Under Scrutiny

During the 10:30 am operation, officers uncovered that the factory had been producing urniture and plywood boards since early 2025 without the required permits under the Perak Wood-Based Industries Enactment 1987. The owner, a 43-year-old local man, was arrested after failing to produce any licence documentation when inspected.

Authorities also noted that the owner had been issued two prior notices to regularise his business licence but did not comply. As a result, multiple pieces of equipment — including processing and manufacturing machines — along with assorted plywood and partially finished furniture products were impounded during the operation.

 Legal Action and Future Proceedings

The case has now been handed over to the Kuala Kangsar District Forestry Office, and investigations are ongoing under Section 3(1) of the Perak Wood-Based Industries Enactment 1987. In addition, the municipal council issued two compounds to the factory owner for not displaying a business signboard and operating without a valid licence.

Law enforcement officers emphasised that rigorous enforcement actions like this aim to ensure legal compliance within the furniture manufacturing sector and protect licensed local businesses from unfair competition by unregulated operations.
